ROUND 5: RESULTS OF THE PRO2 FINAL - 2023 IDC CHAMPIONSHIP AT WATERGRASS HILL, CORK!
Updated: Sep 29, 2023
With a washed out weekend of heavy rain at Round 5 of the IDC in Watergrasshill in Cork, the full results of the PRO2 Final, including PRO2 Jr and PRO2 Rookie have been updated and now live on the site here
Taking the third step is Rookie driver Dean Byrne, his third place battle with Davan Leahy didn't happen due to clutch failure on Leahys GT86.
The Final was between Championship leader Leon Lynch and Aaron Breen. Lynch made a small error on initiation while in the chase position, this caused him to wash a little wide and allowed Breen to pull a small gap, it was tight but the Judges had enough to declare a winner. So after a great campaign this year Lynch took second, but also secured 1st in the Championship.
Aaron Breen took the top step, the man with one of the lowest HP cars on the grid, who has wowed us this year, finally got the win he was chasing.
Knowing how close he was to taking the championship he had accepted Steven Halferty's offer of his M3 powered car. This gamble paid off, winning propelled him from 9th to joint second in the Championship.
This win bettered John Hickeys 2nd at Round 2, so it placed him second and John Hickey third in the championship.
